Eventide Nursing Home

      Today we visited the Eventide Nursing Home near the college. It is a delightful place for older to stay. The workers here are great and friendly. She leaded us to the second floor and there was a huge birthday cake on the desk. Today is Dorthy, an old woman's 95 years old birthday. She seems to happy to see our visit. We said happy birthday to her and took a photo with her. Then we all have a seat on a different desk and play Bingo with the older. There were set at three older on the first desk I sat. A daughter and his husband were here to see her mother. Her mother's hearing seems likes bad. She must speak very close so she could hear. We talked with her mostly. Her mother didn't talk to us. Then we had a piece of cake and the game began. It was happy to see the smile on the older's face when I say hello to them. If they were happy because of my smile, it would be so perfect.
     This was the first time I played the Bingo. We should hear from the host to read the numbers and check out the number on our hands. It was funny and we could communicate with the older more easily. They might seem do not want to talk, but if you are willing to share your idea with them, they would be very happy. All we need is to be patient with them. They were old and ill so they cannot talk fast or could not hear correctly. I think it is a good place for them to spend their time and also for us to show our care for them.

Habitat for Humanity International

   Habitat for Humanity International was founded by Millard and Linda Fuller in Georgia in 1976. I am so excited that I will have the opportunity to help building a house in Moorhead. I wanna help paint the wall or plant the trees. Because I am not the professional so I think I can just do what i can do. But I will have a try on something I do not even know and have no try before so I can learn something new.

   Pete gave us a presentation today. He gave us an introduction on what Habitat for Humanity International does. They try to provide houses to the families which have trouble with owning a house. They organize volunteers to build the houses and government also provides the organization land and help. Pete said the help from the government is just a little and they almost run by themselves. When we arrived at the building house near the school in several blocks away, I saw many white material which keeps the house warm has shaped the wall of the house and Pete said concrete will be poured into it. Although the house has not finished, I can imagine how happy will the family be.

   There are many volunteers would be involved in this program. So will I. I will introduce Habitat for Humanity International to my friends and call appeal them to join. It is not the only way to give help, but we should keep our mind on it.
   We are ready to share our time and passion into providing help. Even you do not know my name, it doesn't matter. I will be happy cause I have paid my effort. I hope Habitat for Humanity International will help more people and more people join them to give help. We can change the world!

Pantry

  Today we visited the Dorothy Day Food Pantry. It was the first time to know this kind of institution of welfare. People who volunteer to work in the house to manage the food and clothing to give to people who need for free. There were many kinds of food and furniture donated by warm-heart people. We try to help them put food into the good shelf. We made it in the short time. It was hard to imagine how two or three people to finish it! I think it is a hard work. The most expressive to me was the man who has worked for the president Johnson. His passion on helping people toughed me so much. He said he likes the feeling when saw the happiness on people's face. It was the reason why he keeps doing this job for three years. It is hard to copy this management into my country, China. But I can also join the organization to help people.

   In my college there are many clubs and organizations to help poor people who needs help. The most high productive is Sicheng. It has built a school with one thousand hundred donated money by public in Guizhou, China. Sichengers always make their goals to help people who needs help and they always did a good job. College students can also do something for welfare.I f we want to help, there are always a lot of chances.

Crash

The movie Crash toughed me so much that not only because of the race and diversity, but also the relationship between people. It is reflected on the street of LA and we can see how it is going on with crash between people.

The most expressive scene for me was the little girl ran to protect his father. The store boss was Persian, but his family was though as Arab. His store was ruined by the people who hate Arab. Also the store boss has racism on Arab. He was so angry that he though the locksmith was the cause of fault. It is easy to make mistakes without reason.All we have to do is to tolerant. 


I think white officer Ryan could be the example of the  problem of double consciousness. He made indecent on the black woman. It was the bad impact of him. In another side, he tried his best to rescue the woman who was in danger. He was an American police, it means power. As for regular people, police stands for bossy. He had to face to his suffering father in the night and can not help to wonder kill the female secretary. We can not describe one person is good or bad depend on one thing.

At last, I want to finish my writing with the words said by black officer at the movie beginning: It's the sense of touch. Any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people. People bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much that we crash into each other just so we can feel something.

Hjemkomst

Today we visited the museum, Hjemkomst Center. A ship was built by Robert Asp in 1972 and the voyage began in May 1982. It was a story about a ship, a dream.

Robert Asp studied about vikings in 1972.Vikings were the king at sea at the period of time during 8th century to 11 century. He wanted to sail viking ship in the sea since then and he began to work for it. Becaues Bjarne Asp studied history of Norway at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota,Bob Asp could studied with books about Vikings. The design of Robert Asp's ship was based on the Gokstad burial ship. 

If I have a chance to take a ship in my journey, I would go to United Kingdom. It is the most attracted place for me. I would begin my voyage in China and keep sailing pass India, Africa, across the Cape of Good Hope. I think it must be a very exciting journey and adventure. I could make my journey with my friends and it will make me stronger.
